August 5: toward the border, braving the rain

IMG_0578 La bestia and I both needed a little extra rest; she had her temperature sensor checked out, which appears to be broken but can wait to be fixed, and I had to deal with some tummy hiccups (water and sleep did the trick). We left Whitehorse in the early afternoon and continued toward the border with Alaska. The picture above shows the major intersection in Haines Junction; that’s where we turned north.

IMG_0583At these latitudes most of the higher mountains remain covered by snow.

IMG_0584Kluane National Park boasts a majestic range with several peaks just below 5,000m. It started raining merely minutes after we’d reached a small campground and rained the night through and during the morning. We skipped breakfast and headed straight to the northern border, which we reached–and crossed without problems–around 11AM on August 6.
