Harry and I have been very lucky with the weather since we left Washington, D.C. in early July. A few rainy days don’t change that. The picture above shows Seward Harbor hosting a Holland America Line cruise ship.
With the Seward Derby winding down, most boats in the bay were filled with tourists hoping to see whales. I was toying with the idea of joining but then learned that one of my former students was killed yesterday. Elton John’s song “Daniel” was playing on the radio as we drove out of the city.
We reached Homer after a little over three hours of driving. Anchor Point, 15 miles northwest of our destination, is probably the western-most U.S. town reachable by car (excluding Hawaii and other U.S. possessions in the Pacific, that is). Sadly we didn’t see much because of the rain.
